Most of the hard work is in farming paragon levels, gem upgrades and perfecting gear you already have, and a lot of it has vastly been reduced both by the power creep and the addition of Echoing Nightmares (no more farming gem upgrades 1-125 for augments, you can get a gem meant for augmenting from the ENs in about 5 min if you survive enough waves).
Leveling a character to 70 is basically an evening at the start of a season or even less if it's an alt and you already have a few items with XP buffs and/or removed level requirement (which in this season can be unlocked by the second upgrade in the Altar).
